Did You Know? AFCAT 02/2026 has 379 vacancies, but clearing the written exam is only the first step. Candidates must also clear the AFSB interview, medical examination and final merit process to secure a place in the Indian Air Force.

With limited vacancies and multiple selection stages, qualifying the written test alone does not guarantee final selection.

If AFCAT doesn’t work out, don’t let one recruitment cycle put your career on hold. Consider an Online Degree from a UGC-approved university as a Plan B while preparing for your next attempt or building qualifications for other career opportunities.

Already, 20% of students have taken counselling from CollegeVidya counsellors to compare online degree options, universities, fees, and specialisations.

One exam, 379 vacancies and multiple selection stages. Keep a strong Plan B ready with CollegeVidya.

AFCAT 2026: Exam Pattern Recap

For context on what the score actually represents, the AFCAT written exam consists of 100 objective-type questions worth a total of 300 marks, covering General Awareness, Verbal Ability in English, Numerical Ability, Reasoning, and Military Aptitude. Candidates applying for Ground Duty (Technical) posts additionally appear for the Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT), covering Mechanical, Computer Science, and Electrical & Electronics topics.

What Happens After the AFCAT 2 Result? The Road to AFSB

Qualifying the written exam is only the first checkpoint. Here's what follows for shortlisted candidates:

  • AFSB Interview — Stage 1 (Screening): This is where numbers narrow down sharply. Candidates take an Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) test covering verbal and non-verbal reasoning, followed by the Picture Perception and Discussion Test (PPDT), where you build a story around a briefly-shown image and then discuss it as part of a group.
  • AFSB Interview — Stage 2: Candidates who clear screening move to a more intensive round spanning psychological tests, Group Testing Officer (GTO) tasks, and a Personal Interview, typically conducted over several days at the selection centre.
  • Medical Examination: Candidates recommended by the AFSB then undergo a detailed medical fitness check as per IAF standards.
  • Final Merit List: Only after all these stages are cleared does the Indian Air Force release the final merit list for officer induction.
