As per the official notice, The extension applies to all notified programs offered through ODL and Online modes, except Semester-based and certificate programs.
IGNOU July 2026 Admission: Two Separate Portals

IGNOU has clearly stated that the Online mode suits only those who have reliable access to a computer or laptop and the internet and who are comfortable learning digitally. If that does not describe your situation, the ODL route may be a better fit, since it comes with physical study material.

Why This Matters if You Have Not Applied Yet

If you were unsure whether the July 2026 cycle was still open, this notice confirms that it is for the programs covered. However, the deadline has already been moved several times this cycle, and IGNOU has not said whether another extension will follow. Applicants should treat October 13, 2026, as the current deadline and verify their specific program status on the official admission portal before applying. It also helps to confirm that your specific program is listed as open on the portal before you start the form, since Semester-based and certificate programs follow a different timeline.

IGNOU July 2026 Admission Deadline Extended to October 13, 2026

In what's now become one of the most extended admission cycles in recent memory, IGNOU has pushed the last date for July 2026 fresh admission all the way to September 30, 2026, its fourth extension this cycle. The extension covers all notified programmes offered in ODL and Online mode, with one notable exception: Semester-based and Certificate programmes are not covered by this latest deadline.

IGNOU July 2026 Admission: Two Separate Portals

IGNOU runs admission through two distinct portals depending on how you want to study:

IGNOU has been explicit that the Online mode is only suitable for students with reliable computer/laptop and internet access who are genuinely comfortable learning digitally — if that's not you, the ODL route is the better fit, since it comes with physical study material.

Why This Matters if You've Been Waiting

If you've held off applying because you weren't sure the July 2026 cycle was still open, this notice confirms it genuinely still is, but given how many times this deadline has already moved, it would be a mistake to assume yet another extension is coming. IGNOU hasn't indicated this is a "final" deadline in its notice, but treating September 30 as your real cutoff, rather than betting on a fifth extension, is the safer approach.

IGNOU July 2026 Admission Deadline Extended Again, Now Till September 30, 2026

If you're enrolled with the Indira Gandhi National Open University and planning to appear for the December 2026 Term-End Examination, the exam form is a mandatory step you can't skip, without it, you simply won't be permitted to sit for the test, regardless of your assignment or attendance status. Here's what's currently known about the deadline, late fee structure, and how to submit your form.

Why the Exam Form Is Mandatory

Unlike a simple formality, the TEE exam form is what actually registers you for the specific courses you'll be tested on this session. IGNOU has been explicit in past notices that students cannot sit for the exam without submitting this form, even if they've completed their assignments and coursework. This applies to every category of learner: students appearing for the first time in a course, those re-appearing after a previous attempt, and those completing pending practical or project components.

IGNOU TEE Exam Form Fee Structure

Based on the fee structure applied in the most recent (June 2026) TEE cycle, here's what students can expect to pay per course:

What Happens If You Miss Both Deadlines?

If a student misses both the standard and late-fee submission windows, IGNOU has, in past cycles, occasionally issued further extensions, but these should never be assumed or relied upon. Students who miss the window entirely typically cannot appear for that session's TEE and must wait for the next examination cycle.

Attention students and parents! The Ministry of Education (MoE) is expected to announce the NIRF 2026 rankings soon. The 11th edition will rank higher education institutions across 16 categories, including engineering, management, medical, law, university, research, and agriculture. Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi is expected to announce the rankings, with the complete list available on the official NIRF website. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) category, introduced last year, is also expected to remain part of the evaluation framework.

NIRF 2026: Categories to Be Ranked

The National Board of Accreditation (NBA) will rank institutions across the following 16 categories:

Overall University

Engineering

Management

Pharmacy

Law

Medical

Architecture

Dental

Innovation

Agriculture and Allied Sectors

Research Institutions

Open Universities

Skill Universities

State-Funded Public Universities

How Will NIRF 2026 Rank Institutions?

The NIRF ranking methodology evaluates institutions on multiple broad areas: teaching and learning, resources, research and professional practice, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity, and peer perception.

Notably, in 2025 the government tightened the evaluation process by introducing stricter rules and additional parameters, including a rule for negative marking on retraction of research papers, a move aimed at improving research integrity across institutions.

For data collection and validation, the NBA will rely not just on institutional self-reported data but also cross-check it using globally recognised sources like Web of Science, Scopus, and Derwent Innovation.

NIRF 2026 Ranking Parameters: Full Breakdown

Here's a detailed look at the five key parameters used to evaluate institutions for NIRF 2026:

1. Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR)

This parameter evaluates the strength and quality of an institution's academic ecosystem, including:

Student strength

Faculty-student ratio

Faculty qualifications and experience

Financial resources and their utilisation

Online education initiatives

Multiple entry/exit options, Indian Knowledge System, and regional language instruction

2. Research and Professional Practice (RP)

This parameter measures the research output and impact of an institution, covering:

Quantity of publications

Quality of publications

Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and patents, both published and granted

Footprint of projects and professional practice

Publications and citations related to Sustainable Development Goals

3. Graduation Outcomes (GO)

This parameter tracks student and research completion rates, including:

University examination performance metrics

Number of PhD scholars who successfully graduate

4. Outreach and Inclusivity (OI)

This parameter assesses how inclusive and diverse an institution is, based on:

Percentage of students from other states and countries

Percentage of women students

Representation of economically and socially challenged students

Facilities available for physically challenged students

Overall perception

5. Peer Perception

This parameter is based on qualitative feedback gathered from academic peers and former employers/employees associated with the institution, reflecting its real-world reputation.

NIRF 2026 Rank Bands: What to Expect

Like previous editions, the NIRF 2026 list will feature:

Individually ranked institutions in the Top 100

Rank bands for institutions placed between 101–150

Rank bands for institutions placed between 151–200

This format allows students to compare institutions not just by exact rank but also by performance tier, making the college selection process more transparent and data-driven.

NIRF 2026 rankings are expected soon, covering higher education institutions across 16 categories, including engineering, management, medical and law. Check the ranking parameters, evaluation criteria, categories and expected rank bands before choosing an institution.
